About the PTO

Our Mission

The Merrymount PTO is an organization whose purpose is to strengthen, enhance, and encourage the educational and social environment of Merrymount Elementary School. Our overarching goals are to complement the school curriculum with additional opportunities for parents, teachers, and students to learn, socialize, communicate and grow.

2024– 2025 PTO Goals:

  • Provide support to ensure equitable access to learning and experiences for all of our students.
  • Provide support to staff as we partner with them to provide learning in new and exciting ways. 
  • Help to foster a greater sense of community and  connectedness.
  • Provide information and support for parents and guardians who would like to be more involved in the school community.

Roles & Responsibilities

Co-President

The co-presidents see to the orderly conduct of all PTO business. They set the agendas of the PTO meetings, chair the PTO Board, delegate roles and responsibilities, and run the general PTO meetings. The presidents also sign contracts and checks and serve as liaisons between PTO and administration/staff.

Co-Vice President

The co-vice presidents assist the co-presidents in organizing and supporting volunteers and activity chairs in their respective roles and responsibilities. They can also step in to run PTO meetings when both Co-Presidents are unable to attend. They can also help the secretaries maintain volunteer lists and recruitment.

Co-Secretary

The primary duty of the co-secretaries is to take minutes at all PTO meetings. The secretaries type up the minutes and maintain either hard copies or electronic copies of the minutes. They also maintain volunteer lists and assist the web master in updating the information on the PTO website. 

Co-Treasurer

The PTO co-treasurers are the custodians of the PTO funds. The treasurers help develop the budget, collect fundraising money, write checks for purchases and reimbursements, track income and spending, make financial reports, and organize the books for annual auditing.
