About the PTO
OUR MISSION
The Merrymount PTO is an organization whose purpose is to strengthen, enhance, and encourage the educational and social environment of Merrymount Elementary School. Our overarching goals are to complement the school curriculum with additional opportunities for parents, teachers, and students to learn, socialize, communicate and grow.
2026– 2027 PTO Goals:
- Provide support to ensure equitable access to learning and experiences for all of our students.
- Provide support to staff as we partner with them to provide learning in new and exciting ways.
- Help to foster a greater sense of community and connectedness.
- Provide information and support for parents and guardians who would like to be more involved in the school community.
Roles & Responsibilities
PRESIDENT
The President helps guide the overall direction and organization of the PTO and keeps things running smoothly. This role leads meetings, sets agendas, coordinates board and committee activities, and serves as the main connection between the PTO and school administration. The President also helps ensure the PTO stays organized, collaborative, and focused on supporting students, families, and staff.
VICE PRESIDENT
The Vice President supports the President and helps coordinate volunteers and event chairs throughout the year. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys helping projects move forward and stepping in to lead meetings when needed.
TREASURER
The Treasurer manages the PTO’s finances and ensure funds are used thoughtfully and responsibly.
Responsibilities include tracking income and expenses, preparing financial updates, managing reimbursements and purchases, and planning the annual budget so the PTO can support school programs and events.
SECRATARIES
The Secretary roles support communication, organization, and connection across the PTO community. This umbrella position includes three areas that can be shared:
MEETING MANAGER
Helps prepare meeting agendas, records meeting notes, shares minutes with members, and sets up Zoom links when needed.
COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
Monitors the PTO email account, coordinates board comms, keeps the PTO calendar organized, and assists with planning staff appreciation gifts throughout the year
SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER
Posts updates about PTO activities, school events, and volunteer opportunities on PTO social media accounts and helps recruit volunteers to support events and programs.
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
These flexible roles are a great way to get involved without joining the board:
SPONSORSHIP MANAGER
Builds relationships with local businesses and community partners to support PTO initiatives. This role coordinates sponsorship outreach, manages recognition details, and ensures sponsors receive appropriate acknowledgement.
DE&I COORDINATOR
Works with school staff to support inclusion and cultural awareness throughout the year. This role helps implement monthly themes, manages related bulletin boards, and leads planning for events such as International Night.
GRADE PARENT LEAD
Helps strengthen communication between the PTO and families at each grade level by sharing updates about school events, volunteer opportunities, and PTO initiatives through the network of grade parents.
